Innovative fund-raising solutions are needed now more than ever. Leading economists tell us the global financial crisis we're in is the worst since the Great Despression. It's deteriorated to the point of now becoming "A once in 50-year event," according to Kenneth Rogoff of Harvard. And don't look for any improvement this year. Rogoff says "2009 basically is a write-off year." (Business Wire, February 13, 2009).
As the news keeps getting worse, nonprofits are already feeling the pinch. For some, the effects are drastic. More than a few will have to close their doors.
And then there's the competition for the fundraising dollar! Even before the economic downturn, the growing number of nonprofit and charitable organizations in this country was making fundraising difficult. The numbers are skyrocketing. Idealist.org says there are now 1.8 million. The National Center for Charitable Statistics says the number grew by a staggering 36.2 percent between 1996 and 2006. There’s no telling when the growth will slow down. This means the competition for the fund-raising dollar is fiercer than ever and will become fiercer still.
Some weeks I get almost a dozen fund-raising letters. I open them all and read them . . . every last word. I’m that kind of guy. Most people aren’t. People tell me they just throw them away or only glance at them momentarily before tossing them — unless something catches their eye.
How do you attract donors in an economic downturn and in the face of so much competition? For starters, your fundraising letters need to catch your prospect’s attention. I can help you there. I’ve learned what catches their attention, what holds it, and what induces them to read the letter — or at least enough to understand why your organization is worthy of their support.
I’ve learned all this by scrupulously studying the ideas of the best copywriters.
What does this mean to you? I’ll help you increase the number and size of the gifts your organization receives.
Give me a call at 801-865-2518 or 801-468-6250. There’s no cost or obligation to you.
